Advent Sunday this year falls on Sunday 30th November. Advent remind us that our existence on this earth does not last for ever. This should spur us to action, not a policy of drift. Advent is a time to waken up and turn to God.
“The Lord delayeth his coming” saith the slothful servant in the parable. “tomorrow is another day” says his modern counterpart. The word for the Church member is NOW. It rings through the Bible like a bell. NOW is Christ risen from the dead. NOW it is high time to wake out of sleep. NOW is our salvation nearer than when we believed. NOW is the accepted time.
NOW is the time to start – to write a letter, to pay that debt, to bury the grudge, to return to Church. Not to put it off. That other day may never come.
NOW is the accepted time, for the Lord is at hand.
