We are proud that our men have so nobly responded to the call to arms in defence of liberty and justice. At the date of going to press it is soon to know how many have volunteered. Saturday, September 5th is a day which will always be remembered in the district, when at 5.30 am the men who had enlisted on the previous day formed up at Emerson’s Row, and after a few words from Dr. Milligan and the Vicar, marched off to entrain for Ballykinlar Camp, headed by the Ligoniel Brass and Reed Band. Many others left the following Monday. Those who have gone include some of our finest and most promising young men.
