Collect of St Mark

Almighty God who has instructed your Holy Church with the heavenly doctrine of your Evangelist St Mark. Give us grace, that, not being like children carried away with every blast of vain doctrine, we may be established in the truth of your holy Gospel, through Jesus Christ our Lord

An Extract from St Mark’s Parish Magazine Dated September 1914

We are proud that our men have so nobly responded to the call to arms in defence of liberty and justice. At the date of going to press it is soon to know how many have volunteered. Saturday, September¬†5th is a day which will always be remembered in the district, when at 5.30 am the men who had enlisted on the previous day formed up at Emerson’s Row, and after a few words from Dr. Milligan and the Vicar, marched off to entrain for Ballykinlar Camp, headed by the Ligoniel Brass and Reed Band. Many others left the following Monday. Those who have gone include some of our finest and most promising young men.
